How The Program Works

Knoxville Habitat for Humanity builds and sells single-family homes to qualified low and very-low income families at no profit and with no interest charged.  The houses are built through funds provided by Covenant Partner groups, who also provide most of the volunteer labor.

Knoxville Habitat for Humanity families are selected on the basis of a need for decent, affordable housing; the ability to pay a 25- to 30-year, no interest mortgage; and their willingness to partner with us.

Our families are selected by our Board of Directors and required to pay $1,200 in closing costs and contribute 500 hours of sweat equity. These closing costs and their monthly mortgage payments go into a revolving “Fund for Humanity” that is used to build more homes.

Homeownership is a big part of The American Dream. At Knoxville Habitat for Humanity, we are a proud partner with individuals and families who are living in substandard housing conditions who want a safe and comfortable place to call home.

From donations of money or land to cars and items we sell, here’s how you can help.
