Most of our volunteer options are through a Covenant Partner group, but we are always looking for individual volunteers as well. So if a volunteer opportunity interests you, please let us know.
Volunteers on a construction site perform many different kinds of tasks. Click here for a description of volunteer opportunities.
Absolutely! Most of our volunteers have no construction experience. We would love to help teach you new skills such as framing, roofing, or siding while on the job site.
Different volunteer opportunities come with various levels of commitment, from as little as a few hours to more long-term commitments. You can volunteer for as much or as little time as you would like. We can work with you to find just the right volunteer opportunity for you.
All of the basic tools and safety equipment you will need on site we will provide for you. However, you should wear weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toed shoes with a sturdy sole. Also, many volunteers find it helpful to bring a tool belt, if they have one. Please be sure to mark your name on any items that you bring, since Habitat for Humanity cannot be responsible for misplaced items on the construction site.
On most weeks, volunteer opportunities are available every day but Sunday. We will work with you to find a day and time that works well with your schedule.
If you are a volunteer as part of a Covenant Partner group, you should call your Project Coordinator to let them know you cannot make it to the work site. The Project Coordinator is usually the person with whom you registered as a volunteer. If you are an individual volunteer, please contact our volunteer coordinator at 865-523-3539.
Yes. Only people aged 16 and over can be present on a Knoxville Habitat for Humanity work site, and only adults 18 and over can use power tools. Children under 16 are not allowed on the construction site for liability purposes.
Please call our volunteer coordinator at 865-523-3539.
Possibly. However, decisions to cancel are only made at the job site the morning the work will be done. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, no determination to cancel will be made prior to the build date. We ask all of our volunteers to report to the work site to find out if work is scheduled for the day.
