Frequently Asked Questions - Covenant Partner FAQ's

Depending upon the goal of your organization, there are many benefits to being a Covenant Partner. For groups, building a house together develops strong feelings of community and provides a valuable team-building experience. For individuals who work with the Coveant Partner group it provides the opportunity to learn new skills, experience spiritual renewal, and get a tangible opportunity to live out his or her faith. All while helping a neighbor build a new life for their family and helping to eliminate poverty housing.

The sponsorship amount is currently $30,000.

You might consider finding another group with which to partner. We have many churches that work together as well as businesses. If you would like to raise more money, we can provide you with fund-raising ideas. Or you can in-kind donations of building materials and/or services.

None!  You do not need to recruit volunteers based on their level of construction experience/expertise.

Due to legal constraints, volunteers must be 16 years old to be on the site and 18 years old to use power tools or to get on ladders / the roof.

Habitat will provide the building lot, all building materials, and the tools (although we may ask for some help with tools during multiple-house blitz builds). Additionally, Habitat will provide all construction leadership and supervision and select the homeowner family.

Partner families put in a lot of work before construction even begins on their home with a Covenant Partner. They will have completed most all of their 500 hours of sweat equity through classwork. They earn the remaining hours on the build site working with the Covenant Partner volunteers. Additionally, they must clean up the work site each day so that it is ready for the next day’s work.

Except during a blitz build, it takes approximately 10 weeks to build a house. This schedule includes three to four Saturdays of Covenant Partner volunteer work and then two weeks “off” for subcontracting work. Finally, there are an additional two to four weeks of Covenant Partner volunteer Saturdays. This schedule is extended when holidays fall within the time period.

With the approval of the construction team, we will allow Covenant Partners to build on a different schedule. A licensed contractor, who is willing to provide construction leadership, supervision and tools, is the best fit for this type of arrangement.

Covenant Partners have no further responsibility to a homeowner family once a build is complete. However, we encourage you to continue to support our affiliate.
