'Music Row' Fundraiser Nets $255,000 for Knox Habitat

There was plenty of star-gazing going on in Knoxville on Wednesday, October 20. And all of it was to benefit Knoxville Habitat for Humanity.

It was a beautifully clear night under the stars when country music recording artist Keith Urban performed at a private fundraiser event at the home of Charlie and Moll Anderson that netted $255,000 for KHFH.

This was the third year for the fundraiser. Previous performers included country music duo Brooks & Dunn and crooner Martina McBride. The event is the brain-child of Moll Anderson, a Knoxville Habitat for Humanity board member since 2006.

The proceeds from the Anderson's event go towards KHFH educational programs and for building homes on Knoxville Habitat for Humanity's designated "Music Row", what eventually will be 10 homes on one street in the Lonsdale community. The homes are being dedicated in the names of each country act who performs at the private benefit concerts. The second home begins construction this month.

The idea for the fundraiser and for the "Music Row" neighborhood are all the brainchild of Moll Anderson, who understands the need for simple, decent and affordable housing. During a very challenging time in her life, Moll was a single mother supporting her  young child – and even found herself struggling to find a place to live.

Even though Moll is now a very successful entrepreneur and well-known interior designer, she is respectful of the struggles faced by hard-working families and has purposefully focused her philanthropic endeavors to inspire others to make the most of their own lives.

"Moll is an inspiration to our families, volunteers and donor base, who understand that a house is more than just a structure: It's a tool that that enables people to be more and make more with their lives when they have a safe place to thrive," said Kelle Shultz, president and CEO of Knoxville Habitat for Humanity.

Beyond her work on the "Music Row" project, Moll serves in quieter ways, too, as a dedicated volunteer and board member. She meets with potential Habitat families when she goes on home visits to learn about the substandard living conditions in which they live. When she first joined the Board of Directors in 2006, Moll looked closely at the needs of the organization and has purposefully supported programs that go on behind the building of the homes, such as the educational programs that enable successful Habitat homeowners.

Thank you, to Moll and Charlie Anderson, for all that you do for Knoxville Habitat for Humanity. And thank you to all of the donors who help support the fundraising event. We couldn't do what we do without your support.
